A Death on the Oudegracht

The narrator is drawn into the mystery of a woman’s murder near a Dutch bank. Three years after the crime, a photograph of the victim triggers his memories of meeting her at a pub, where she sought his help with an ancient text. As he reflects on the unsolved case, the narrator becomes increasingly entangled in the puzzle surrounding her death, offering a personal connection to the crime.

The Mortuary with Two Doors

Doctor Smrt takes over a mortuary during an epidemic. His assistant, the diener, has disappeared, and he’s left to handle the mounting death toll alone. As he transports the dead, he notices eerie patterns in the empty racks, which seem to follow a strange numerical order. Over time, he becomes obsessed with these patterns, and one night, the number of corpses he brings in perfectly fills the empty spaces, deepening the mystery of the mortuary’s secrets.
